LaTeX exited abnormally with code 127 at Mon Aug 11 23:17:45 bin/sh: line 1: pdflatex: command not found Calls aquamacs-tex-pdf-viewer' to display the PDF file using the Skim AppleScript protocol. I commented out the existing aquamacs-call-viewer function definition and replaced it with my own: (defun aquamacs-call-viewer (line source) 'Display current output file as PDF at LINE (as in file SOURCE). This release is compiled to run on any Mac OS version from El Capitan (10.11) forward. This version also include native support for libxml2 as well as JPEG and SVG images. Several of the bundled Emacs Lisp packages have been updated to more recent versions, most notably AUCTeX. Running `LaTeX' on `newtest' with ``pdflatex -interaction=nonstopmode "\input" newtest.tex'' So I bit the bullet and edited auctex-config.el. The Aquamacs app is now fully signed and notarized by Apple. The full error message is (from aquamacs): I am getting the same problem on Linux (ubuntu) and aquamacs on a simple 4 line bit of latex, which compiles on the same box using other editors, so it seems its specifically an Emacs/Aqumacs/Auctex problem.
